In response to requests from the public after it recently became known that the Obama White House was brewing homemade beer at the Executive Mansion, the beer recipes were made public on Saturday (September 1st). In a pun-filled blog post called "Ale to the Chief," White House Assistant Chef Sam Kass gave out the recipes for White House Honey Brown Ale and the White House Honey Porter, which contain honey from First Lady Michelle Obama's garden beehive as a key ingredient. Kass wrote that the honey, quote, "gives the beer a rich aroma and a nice finish, but it doesn't sweeten it." President Obama reportedly bought a home brewing kit last year and has served the beer at St. Patrick's Day and Super Bowl celebrations. It's believed that this is the first time that beer has ever been brewed at the White House.
