Actor Dane DeHaan opened up to movie news site Collider this week about his role in Metallica's upcoming 3D movie, Metallica: Through The Never. DeHaan said about the film, "It's in a way like a 3D concert movie but there's also this narrative that ties together all the footage. It's gonna be, first of all, really rock and roll and really 'Metallica' for lack of a better word; they don't hold back at all. But during the concert I basically go on this trip as a roadie for the band and I pretty much literally have to go through hell and back to take it back to them, and all of this is going on during the concert so it all ties together really kind of beautifully and uniquely."

DeHaan added, "It's unlike anything that I've ever seen before; it's almost like a concert movie meets (Pink Floyd's) The Wall meets Metallica."

  • Drummer Lars Ulrich told us that the band was impressed with DeHaan's performance in the movie: ["Dane DeHaan, who is the star of the film, is so incredibly cool and so dynamic and magnetic, you just sit there and you can't take your eyes off him. And every time it cuts to somebody in the band, like (James) Hetfield or myself, it's like, 'Go back to Dane again!' He's just fantastic. He's gonna be a major, major movie star in the next five, 10 years."]
  • Metallica Through The Never will arrive on August 9th of this year. The film is directed by Nimrod Antal, who helmed 2010's Predators.
  • The movie is being released by small independent film distributor Picturehouse, which is returning to the business after several years away and is making the Metallica film its first release. The company's previous movies include Pan's Labyrinth, La Vie En Rose, A Prairie Home Companion and The Women.
